Beauty standards have been around since the ancient civilizations and have changed a lot since social media became a thing.
Beauty standards defy if you’re attractive or not, based on society’s expectations of appearance. Every society and culture has beauty standards. Beauty standards exist to show what everyone all around the world thinks is considered attractive.
The main question is if beauty standards are getting too hard to achieve and if they are getting worse.
Evelyn Xiong(10) states her view on beauty standards, “I believe that the beauty standards are way too high, and sometimes the majority of the men population are putting that standard to a whole different level.”
Xiong explains to us how beauty standards are getting worse because of how men are exaggerating on how women should look and their views are getting too unrealistic.
Xiong also says, “I do believe it's all about social media, social media puts this imaginary figure or an expectation that a lot of people want to be or what a man wants a woman to be.”
She tells us how social media affects how men or women are expected to look.
Obviously beauty standards do have some positives and they are not just getting worse.
The website, Holmes Place says, “Beautiful people are perceived as being healthier, wealthier, more socially dominant and more trustworthy.”
This website explains how following beauty standards can make people feel more confident.
In addition, the website Study Corgi also states, “For example, photographs of attractive iconic figures, bloggers, or just random individuals may inspire people to work diligently to improve their appearance.”
This quote explains beauty standards can motivate people to think about their appearance more and how they want to be perceived by other people.
Beauty standards can cause problems but they can also motivate and improve self confidence, so what is your opinion on beauty standards?
