A.I. Art Trends Disturbs The Creative Space

AI generative art has just recently gained massive popularity. AI stands for artificial intelligence, which means the art it creates is artwork not created by a human. AI was first created in the 1970s and became widespread around 2022.
Art can be interpreted in many ways, but creating art through the click of a button is ruining the art community and what it stands for.
Generative programs are stealing art from hardworking artists and recycling it into their own unoriginal creations.
John F. Kennedy art teacher, Nicole Servanda, says, ”I feel like it's cheating. I feel like if you're gonna use it for ideas, fine, but it's like you're just letting the computer do the work for you. And it's basically taking a slice of someone else's work and combining it with your idea. And then just kind of coming up with something that's very generic looking.”
Neda Faramarz (12) states, “Art is not just about drawing it’s also about feeling. When you look at a human drawing, you can see how hard they tried but when you look at an AI drawing it feels like it just came out of a printer.”
According to The Eagle Online, “Lawmakers and courts have failed to protect artists and their work from being stolen by AI companies for profit.” Art generators have begun to take artists’ jobs, as many are losing clients and commissions to the online programs.
Servanda states, “I think it's just laziness and it has no soul to it, which is the whole point of art.” She added that such programs can never emulate real art.
Overdependence on AI can cause us to be unable to think for ourselves and leave all of our thinking up to computer programs.
The website, Jmlacey, states that when we push everything for AI to solve, the cognitive abilities that we have, like our creativity, would eventually disappear.
AI art can also be used to spread misinformation, as newer programs have been able to generate more realistic art pieces. Before, generated images have been easy to distinguish because of their inconsistencies and errors. However, more realistic images can lead to rumours and fake news. Some AI are even able to make realistic deep fakes which can lead to identity fraud. Generated images can also lead to political disinformation because of how realistic and misleading they can look.
The website, NBC News, says that fake images created by AI have spread so quickly that they are now as common as editing tools like photoshop.
While AI can make images, that does not mean they can make art. AI generated images come with risks and are slowly destroying the basis of what art really means.
